An evening of song, brought to you by Italian tenor Alessandro Cortello and concert pianist Patrick Hemmerlé. To include favourites from Finzi's song cycle, Let Us Garlands Bring, Liszt's Petrarch sonnets, Britten's Michaelangelo sonnets, and Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn.
Alessandro Cortello started his vocal training with Alfredo Mariotti and later studied with Claude Thiolas and Luciana D'Intino. He graduated in Piano at the Conservatorio Frescobaldi in Ferrara and in Singing at the Conservatorio Tomadini in Udine. He also studied Composition. He won two editions of the Concorso Cameristico C.A.Seghizzi in Gorizia: in 2005 in the Sacred Music category, and in 2007 in the Chamber Singing category.
Patrick Hemmerlé is a French concert pianist based in Cambridge, UK, acclaimed for his intellectually rich programming and virtuosic command of the instrument, he has built an international reputation. His repertoire is extensive and imaginative, showing unrelenting curiosity for lesser-known composers, and he is known for drawing deep connections between works from different styles and eras. Currently Musician-in-Residence at Clare Hall, Cambridge University, Hemmerlé curates and directs the college’s celebrated concert series, Intimate Engagements.
