Temptations: A New Chamber Opera

Temptations is new, semi-staged chamber opera by final year music undergraduate Rhiannon Randle.

Temptations is an intensely dramatic reimagining of Satan’s temptation of Jesus in the desert, portrayed through the eyes of starving Israelites, and touches upon the question of truth in today’s society.

The work is a setting of sonnets by Girton College’s chaplain, Rev. Dr. Malcolm Guite (from his best-selling book Sounding The Seasons complemented by passages from the Gospel of St. Luke.

Performed by six choral scholars from the choirs of King’s, St. John’s, Gonville and Caius and Girton, accompanied by an orchestra made up of top university instrumental scholars and members of Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra.


There will also be a performance of Temptations on Fri 24 January at St John's Divinity School
