    The Bryna Ensemble, formed at the Royal Academy of Music, explores the unusual repertoire of the wind, brass and piano quintet, and showcases the great talent of British female players. Concerto soloists, orchestral players and recitalists they have won many awards; as an ensemble they shine. Here they play two wonderful works for the combination–Mozart’s Quintet in E flat major K452, regarded by Mozart in a letter to his father as one of the best he ever wrote, and the work that inspired Holst in his striking and symphonic Quintet in A minor Op 3.     Two major world premières, Poul Ruders’ Sonata Sospeso and Jeremy Thurlow’s Ouija are framed by Bach’s G minor Sonata and D minor Partita for solo violin in a recital by the international soloist who has inspired composers to write over 200 compositions dedicated to him.     Professional vocal ensemble, Dieci, are a dynamic and exciting group of young professional singers. Dieci were Grand Finalists of the BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year competition in 2008. They perform early sacred music including Allegri and Victoria’s settings Lamentations of Jeremiah along with Palestrina, Dunstable and Henry VIII’s Pastime with Good Company. Also madrigals including Weep, weep mine eyes and Fair Phyllis, through to two of Parry’s Songs of Farewell, Finzi’s My spirit sang all day and Gershwin’s I got Rhythm. [more...]

    Sam Leak's 'Aquarium' & Partikel Trio

    Pianist Sam Leak is much in demand on the London scene, having played at Ronnie Scott's, Kings Place and The Vortex. His band, Aquarium, released their eponymous debut album in March 2011. Fronted by saxophonist Duncan Eagles, Partikel Trio's music draws influences from African and Latin American music with the style of the contemporary New York scene, which creates a fresh take on the saxophone trio format.
